The alarm is ringing as the day passes by because we’re getting closer to the GATE exam in 2021. By now most of the students would have been done by at least 70%-80% of the syllabus, depending on the individual potentially. Now is the time to start our revision cycles which will run until the day of examination. Nowadays, revision has become more of an art because it is much of a personalised approach of preparation that anyone would go with. Despite, there are some certain empirically tested ways through which we can make our revision grow strong, effective and more productive. Revision is the final touch you give to your preparation hence, it is very prominent as it also becomes decisive many a time.

So, here we are with some tips that you must use while revising for your examination.

  • Ditch the detailed notes:

Yes, you might think that it is the time to linger around the detailed notes that you’ve made throughout your preparations, but wait, that’s where you are wrong. Those detailed notes were for the foundational purpose and right now you need to build on those foundations thus, you need more precise and pin-pointed notes. Whatever you could learn from those notes you’ve already taken away now you should elevate your level.

  • Use Flash Cards/Micro notes:

Instead of reading those lengthy notes over and over again will absorb a lot of time that you cannot afford to spend. No matter how hard you’ll try you cannot cover each and everything with those notes. So, what has to be done now? Don’t worry, here’s what you can do- from your detailed class notes try preparing a short, precise, pin-pointed and handy note. Try to wrap the subject matter in as many short pointers as possible. These notes are micro notes or flashcards. Write down the formulae, some key points which reflect the whole concepts or simply the gist or the essence of the concept. These micro notes will be your revision stuff until examination.

  • Subject wise Revision:

Subject wise revision is a complementary thing that every student must do. This will not only help you in gaining command over the individual topics but will also allow you to know the key areas of every subject. Subject wise revision will fill the loopholes of your preparation so don’t skip it.

You should not go on revising random subjects, rather it should be systematic too. Try starting with the weaker subjects and then gradually move towards the stronger subject. Remember, weaker subjects need more of your time and sustained attention simultaneously; you cannot ignore the stronger subjects, so keep them in line too.

  • Subject wise test Series:

Subject wise test series will be proved as a boon especially to those subjects which are weaker. You should start taking these subject wise test series positively and as soon as possible because, from January you should be more focused on the full length test series. Take it as if this is the only time to rectify your weaknesses and turn them to your strengths. Subject wise test series should also be taken for those subjects which are strong.

  • Keep your Books closer:

While revising you might come across a point or two wherein you feel the need of your book. Although, it is not possible to read the book word by word for every concept but still, if you feel like then don’t give it a second thought and straightaway refer to your book. Please keep in mind that you should do this for only those topics which are still very weak or hard to pick up or else you’ll waste a lot of time.

  • Systematic Revision:

Cyclic revision is one thing and systematic revision is another. Even at the time of revision you must move from weaker concepts to stronger ones, or else it’ll be a hodgepodge. Don’t try to revise everything at once, it is moreover like eating breakfast, lunch and dinner at once- you’ll end up puking. Avoid this situation and divide perquisite time for all the concepts throughout the syllabus and follow it religious.

  • Cyclic Revision:

As we already mentioned above- cyclic revision is one thing and systematic revision is another thing. In the name of cyclic revision you should make sure that whatever you’ve written in your micro notes should be revised on a regular basis till the day of your examination. As a tip, start working with the weaker points and then gradually move to the strengths. Remember, your weaknesses and strengths should be on the level so that at the end everything comes on the same page.
